SCIENTIFIC NAME: Claytonia perfoliata
DIRECT SEEDING (recommended): Sow any time midspring through late summer. Ideal germination temperature is 16C to 25C. For baby leaf: Sow 3–5 seeds/i25mm in rows at least 50mm apart. For production of rosettes: Sow seeds 13mm apart, in rows 10cm-15cm apart, covering 6mm. Thin to 10cm-15cm apart.
TRANSPLANTING: Sow 4–5 seeds per 25mm-50mm cell container. NOTE: Claytonia suffers from roots damage during transplanting. Thin to 2 plants per cell. In about 4–5 weeks, when roots have filled the cell, gently transplant 20cm apart.
HARVEST: For cut-and-come-again baby leaf: Cut the leaves above the basal plate. For rosettes: Harvest below the basal plate. The plant will continue to branch, adding more volume to the rosettes and culminating in the production of delicate flowers, which appear to emerge from the heart of the leaf.
AVG. DIRECT SEEDING RATE: 30g./130 metres’.
SEED SPECS: SEEDS/30g.: Avg. 48,000 seeds.
