Growing Information

Balena | F1 Celeriac Seed

CULTURE:
Celeriac requires a fertile soil with a pH range of 6.0–7.0. Maintain soil moisture, indoors or out and throughout the season to optimise flavour and yield.

TRANSPLANTING:
Sow 3mm deep in trays or soil blocks 10–12 weeks before transplanting outdoors. Keep soil moist and if possible temperatures between 21–24°C. After seedlings emerge at week 2–3 reduce temperature to 16–21°C.

Transplant outdoors when weather is warm and settled. Set plants 15-20cm apart in rows 60-75cm apart. Irrigate to keep soil moist. When hardening off reduce water for 7–10 days and avoid daytime temperatures consistently (10 days or more) below 13°C to reduce risk of bolting. Do not harden off by lowering temperatures.

PESTS AND DISEASE:
For leaf blights, rotate crops. Ensure adequate soil calcium and water to prevent black heart. For Celery Mosaic (mottled leaves, twisted stems, dwarfing), control aphids.

HARVEST:
Harvest late summer through autumn at a 75-125cm diameter.

POST HARVEST:
After harvest, remove field heat by placing plants in cold water.

STORAGE:
Store roots at 0°C with 98–100% relative humidity. Celeriac can store for 6–8 months.

Germination; 24C
DAYS TO MATURITY: 97 days From transplant.
